The National Republican Guard (GNR), through the Emergency Protection and Rescue Unit (UEPS) and the Territorial Command of Viseu, located an elderly man who was missing on 19 December.
This action involved the UEPS service through the military’s Unmanned Aerial Systems Team (EUAS) operating drones. Using a drone equipped with a thermal camera, they were able to detect a heat source in the vegetation.
Drones are an asset in the field of public safety and in assisting search and rescue operations.

In recent years, the School of Agriculture of the Polytechnic Institute (Escola Superior Agrária do Instituto Politécnico) has made a significant investment to be at the forefront of technologies to support precision agriculture.
One of the most recent investments is the MicaSense Altum and the DJI Inspire 2 which allows to strengthen crop monitoring capabilities, both in an educational context and to support research activities.
The first demonstration and delivery of this equipment took place in the framework of Science and Technology Week 2021 and was supported by HPDRONES.
